Talk Green on Motorola’s Carbon Neutral Phone
Think about how often you replace your cell phone. If you’re like the average American, you buy a new one every 18 to 24 months–probably when you renew your contract and can get one for free. Next time, get a green option like Motorola’s MOTO W233 Renew because as far as electronics go, cell phones have become fairly disposable.
The problem is that the manufacture of all these new phones requires a lot of energy and according to the EPA, 90% of them end up in the landfill where they can potentially leach toxins like lead, cadmium, mercury and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).
However, this T-Mobile phone is made from recycled plastic bottles, which not only puts landfill bound stuff to good use, but also requires 20% less energy for manufacturing than traditional plastic phones. Even better, this means the plastic housing is 100% recyclable once you’re ready to move on to your next phone. It even comes with a postage-paid recycling envelope so disposing of it in an environmentally friendly way is effortless.
And to really drive their green message, Motorola says Renew is the world’s first carbon neutral phone. That’s a big statement, but the company did partner with carbonfund.org to offset the emissions creating during the phone’s lifetime from manufacture, distribution and operation.
