Eco-Adventures for Kids

xeko-mission-indonesia

Kid’s today have plenty of entertainment options, but most of them require batteries or plug-ins and the only lessons learned are when to push A and when to dodge. Instead of another video game, why not pick up something for your kids that they won’t watch on a screen, like Xeko Mission: Indonesia, an intricate card game that comes packaged in a mini “coffee crate” and helps educate kids about environmental issues around the globe.

The players must create a sustainable, balanced eco-system using the 41 cards included in the pack and the Playmat/Eco-Map to help the endangered animals in Sundaland (an area that includes parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Borneo). While the game appears complicated initially, kids who are on the older side will enjoy the challenge and discovery and you may just find it’s complex enough to get your playing, too. If your children enjoy Xeko Mission: Indonesia, you can purchase other locations, like Xeko Missions: China, which can intergrated into each other. The fun can continue online, too, with an Xekopedia, Agent Zone and list of Xeko events around the country.

Xeko Mission: Indonesia is full of green benefits as an environmental educator for upcoming generations, but the materials that make up the game are incredibly eco-friendly also. The collectable “coffee crate” box is made from sustainably-farmed FSC certified wood and the game materials and packaging are recycled and recyclable and printed with soy-based inks. The valuable lessons that kids can learn from Xeko aren’t limited to when they play, either, the Green Stars program encourages them to send in empty Booster Pack wrappers for recycling and earns them points when they do, and you can feel good knowing that 4 percent of each purchase will be donated to Conservation International.

  1. You picked the best mission to review, this starter is by far the nicest of the bunch but unfortunately it does cost a few bucks more.

Nice write up, my daughter loves this game. Keep up the good work.

  2. I love playing Xeko with my nephew Chandler. The plants and animals in each mission (set) are unlike anything I imagined. I thought I knew about most animals but I’ve found quite a few on Xeko cards I never knew existed. Chandler loves the variety and gross animals and we both like playing the game. The Madagascar and Costa Rica missions were fantastic. If you can still find a starter set or booster packs for them I highly recommend it. Since starting Xeko we now volunteer to clean up rivers in our area and I’ve found a number of animals in our area I never knew existed (look up Hellbender salamander… I don’t want to meet one of those).
