Does pollution make you fat?
So far, pollution has been slandered as being at the origin of respiratory diseases and global warming. A surprising Spanish study might weigh up the negative impact of pollution. According to this study, pollution might turn babies into obese children. The exposure of your child to a series of common chemicals, before its birth, could affect his/her health and turn him into an obese child.
To prevent child obesity, organic and natural products may have a preventive effect. By giving organic food to your green baby, you might improve his/her chances. Better for your health, organic and natural products are to be consumed before your child’s birth and of course to be shared with him afterwards!
We are all born with a different metabolism. Consequently, our predispositions regarding weight gain differ (life isn’t a piece of cake!). Your beautiful green baby might be threatened…
The scientists of the Municipal Institute of Medical Research in Barcelona suggest that pollution predisposes children to become obese. The chemical contagion begins before the birth. The results of the study published in the journal Acta Paediatrica make believe that the level of hexachlorobenzene (HCB), a pesticide, in the umbilical cord is determining. As a matter of fact, the umbilical cords of 403 babies born on the Spanish island of Menorca were analyzed. The fetuses with the highest levels of HCB have twice more risks of becoming obese by the age of six and a half!
HCB, a persistent organic pollutant mainly used to treat seeds, was internationally banned since the birth of these children. Nonetheless, it is certain that this persistent pesticide is still running loose, polluting the environment and the food we eat.
The interest of this study does not lie in the identification of a particular pesticide, but rather in the demonstration of what can happen when we’re confronted to pesticides in general. The scientists and authors of this study thus advice “to minimize” our exposure to pesticides.
That is why we strongly suggest a well-balanced and healthy organic diet starting at the youngest age. Numerous adapted organic and natural products exist to ensure the best for your green baby. Let’s fight together against pollution and child obesity, a major public health issue.
The leader of the Conservative party, David Cameron, blamed solely the obese for their own condition. He defined them as: “People who eat too much and take too little exercise”. According to generally accepted principles, weight increases have historically been attributed to an intake of calories exceeding calories expended through physical exercise. However, this study seems to reassess this statement. Maybe the greasy foods we eat and the lack of physical exercise are not exclusively responsible for the obesity epidemic.
