Seventh Generation Says Goodbye to CEO

We’ve constantly raving about Seventh Generation on the Greenzer blog and it’s always for good reason. They make products that are as green as they claim to be and have managed to make a profit it doing it (and there’s nothing anti-green about making money). They even manage to fit bettering the entire cleaning industry into their schedule, with programs like Big Green Lies that expose the problems of many claim-to-be-green companies. Our latest news on the eco-focused company, however, is a little sadder; CEO Jeffrey Hollender is stepping down from his post to help Seventh Generation get even bigger than it is now. Hollender will stay on as Chief Inspired Protagonist (why can’t every company have one of these?) and will always be Co-founder, but will be replaced in the CEO role by Chuck Maniscalco, a man with plenty of food and beverage companies under his belt but a lesser amount of environmentally-geared experience.
The change in leadership is being done to aid Seventh Generation in its goal to jump from $150 million in annual sales to $1 billion in annual sales—a task Hollender has stated is not best suited to him. The increasing expansion of the company has had some longtime fans a little irritated (something they’re not used to happening with the gentle, earth-friendly Seventh Generation products). They’ve been displeased to see Seventh Generation in major chains stores like Wal-Mart, but we think that the only way the U.S. will be able to get greener in a much bigger way is if truly green products start appearing at all stores. If Seventh Generation can stand out as an actually eco-friendly line in a sea of greenwashing, we’re all for even more expansion and look forward to seeing Maniscalco deliver the results.
Keep an eye out for Hollender as he travels the country spreading the ideas and ideals of Seventh Generation and promotes their two new books, and, of course, keep stocking Seventh Generation products for your home (and if you ever have any doubt about their level of green, just check out their website for the facts that back it up).
