Pack a Green Picnic
![]()
If you’re packing up a meal to eat outside in nature, why not make your picnic easy on nature? Start with an eco-friendly picnic basket like the Picnic Time Highlander Basket made of sustainable bamboo. Admittedly, the material is the only thing that gives this basket green cred so it scores low on the eco-friendly scale. That said, packing your lunch or dinner and dining al fresco alone will earn you points with Mother Nature–no need for light or air conditioning at the park, right?
This big basket comes with a picnic blanket and everything you need to serve food and wine for four: plates, stainless steel flatware, wine glasses, a wine duffel, a corkscrew and a cutting board. Since you have reusables at the ready, you won’t fall prey to one of the worst outdoor dining offenders–paper and plastic picnicware.
Go the extra mile and chose organic or biodynamic wine along with a menu of freshly homemade foods sans packaging. Local and organic meals get bonus points. You should also look for a picnicking spot that’s close enough to home that you can get their by bike or on your own two feet. Public transporation and carpooling are good alterternatives for lowering your carbon footprint, too.
