Planet Green To Play Full Length Eco-Documentaries

If you’ve been struggling trying to track down all the fascinating eco-documentaries that you’ve seen previews for online (or read about here on the Greenzer blog) we feel your pain. Sometimes it’s a matter of researching until you find that one theater in your area that plays independent documentaries, other times it’s truly impossible because the green documentary you’re seeking won’t actually be playing in your city. You can make things easier on yourself, however, by tuning into Planet Green this fall (if you don’t have the channel in you area, put a request in with your provider now and they may get it by that time) for their new Reel Impact television block.
You may already watch Planet Green for their green-centered shows like Renovation Nation and Living With Ed, but the Reel Impact programming will allow you to watch many of those documentaries that you’ve been pining for, without the hassle of ever leaving your living room (or paying for theater admission). Reel Impact film selections will air on Saturday and Thursday nights starting September 12th and will kick off with the The Last Beekeeper, a surprisingly moving documentary following the drastic—and worrisome—decline in the bee population. Eco-classics like Who Killed the Electric Car and An Inconvenient Truth will air at later dates and, in 2010, Reel Impact will be the first place to see the much-discussed documentary No Impact Man (you’ll remember us picking it as one of our favorites when it played at Sundance).
If you’ve got kids and have been trying to find ways to educate them about the problems facing our environment (and, in turn, us) Reel Impact may be just what you need. Make Saturday a movie night (or Thursday if your kids always have weekend plans) and gather everyone for educating yet interesting films that will get you discussing what’s going on in the world and what you can do about it. Just make sure the popcorn’s non-GMO.
