Celebrities Gone Green: Gwyneth Paltrow Runs on Solar

Gwyneth Paltrow has long been known for her reputation for eating local and organic and for leaning green (although she  did land herself in hot water for wearing fur a little while back) and on her new website GOOP she tends to involve her eco-friendly ideals. Topics run the gamut from religion to lists of her favorite party tunes, but you’ll notice green popping up throughout, whether it’s in the form of a recipe that features organic ingredients or in a Christmas gift list that includes a recycled bamboo utensil set. Gwyneth has even made it onto the Greenzer blog as a green celebrity before (for using Earth Mama Angel Baby’s all natural stretch oil during pregnancy).

One of the most frequent topics in the GOOP newsletter, however, is shopping, and her latest list of must-haves is focused on all things green—-with a little extra input from fellow green celeb Cameron Diaz. The usual suspects are featured, like an electric vehicle and organic cotton clothing, but we were excited to see Paltrow raving about the Solio Solar chargers, which she says help her solve the problem of where to charge her phone and do it in a way that reduces her dependence on traditional energy. If you’re always running out of power—for your cell, iPod or digital camera—the Solio will have you just as excited as Gwyneth. It starts in a small, easily transportable shape, fans out to absorb sunlight, and keeps you charged wherever you are. Plus, because the Solio can be plugged into a conventional socket and features adapters to charge all different devices, you can pack it instead of all your various chargers on your next trip.

And, if we weren’t already feeling good about Gwyneth’s green changes, the GOOP green list also featured other Greenzer favorites like the Voltaic Solar Backpack, reusable bags and travel mugs, and the sleekly-designed KOR Hydration Vessel water bottle. Celebrity or not, we can all start with small changes like these to shrink our carbon footprints and improve our quality of life.
