Two Natural Cures for Too Much Thanksgiving Dinner

It’s practically inevitable, you can have all the self control in the world the day before Thanksgiving, but once the smell of buttery mashed potatoes and sweet pumpkin pie fills the room, any thoughts of portion control or limited eating go out the window. Sometimes it even takes days to get back to your regular eating habits (someone’s got to eat all those leftovers before they go bad, right?). Unfortunately, your stomach can’t always keep up with your taste buds and you can find yourself in the post-Thanksgiving upset stomach state that comes with much too much food.

Instead of reaching for a bottle of peculiarly pink Pepto-Bismol, which can be dangerous for children, teenagers and pregnant women, tastes less than spectacular, and may turn your tongue and stool black for days, give a natural remedy a shot.

Two of our favorites are Hyland’s Upset Stomach and Pepogest, which are both made from all-natural ingredients. Hyland’s Upset Stomach is a charcoal-based homeopathic formula that contains nux vomica (a buzzword product in natural medicine circles) and is designed specifically for digestion issues that arise from overeating and improper diet (sound like your situation?). Best of all, Hyland’s Upset Stomach won’t counteract negatively with any other medication you take and has no side effects, so your tongue can stay the healthy pink it is now. If you’re still in doubt where something so natural will work, just check out the rave reviews it’s received.

Pepogest is another product that’s got plenty of cult followers, and it uses one of the oldest digestion remedies there is: Peppermint. Great for overeating and changes in diet—like a sudden increased intake of candied yams—the peppermint oil in Pepogest effectively soothes indigestion and gas without the help of any other ingredients. One of the biggest benefits of Pepogest over liquid peppermint oil, however, is the enteric coating of the capsules, which prevents your stomach acids from getting to the peppermint oil before it makes it to the intestinal tract, where it’s the most effective.

Pick up a bottle of either product now and you won’t be facing the same stomach situation post-Christmas dinner (or post-Christmas Party, or post-Christmas cookie feast, or…well, you get the idea).
