Celebrities Gone Green: Emma Watson Works Her Magic at People Tree

All around the world, children have grown up with Emma Watson as they watched her in the film versions of the Harry Potter saga, and she certainly seems to have matured into a responsible adult. Watson is attending Brown University this year (between movie shoots) and has yet to be caught in any of the gossip-generating behavior that’s been common with young stars. In fact, Emma Watson seems intent upon using her celebrity status to improve both herself and the world around her.

One component of Watson’s improvement efforts is her drive to get greener. It’s even a literal drive in some cases, with the 19-year old actress getting around town in her Prius (as well as raving about it on television). Watson’s also known to recycle and was also involved in a rumor that she was being sought out as a Greenpeace ambassador—although that particular story never seemed to pan out.

For her latest environmental endeavor, Emma Watson has taken the route of many celebrities and thrown her name (and artistic vision) behind a clothing line: People Tree, a UK-based company that produces eco-friendly and Fair Trade goods. Watson is launching a Spring/Summer 2010 collection called Love from Emma that will make People Tree’s already green designs more appealing to a younger set, while still keeping with the brand’s philosophy and making use of only 100% organic and Fair Trade-certified cotton that is then crafted by Fair Trade groups .

Watson’s reasons for the collaboration definitely seem deeper than the usual brand expansion that inspires most celebs to produce their own fragrance or handbag collection, with the actress saying “Young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there.”

You can shop the Love from Emma line in the U.K. come February 2010, and, in the meantime, check out eco-friendly clothing with a fresh feel here.
