Top 5 Eco-Friendly Holiday Party Dresses

The holiday season is upon us and that means weeks of festive fetes just begging for new outfits. From a Christmas party for work to an annual brunch at your parent’s, chances are you have a few occasions that you’ll be dressing for—including the always crucial New Year’s Eve attire—so we’ve compiled five of our favorite holidays dresses that won’t just stun those you celebrate the season with, they’ll help your reduce your carbon footprint. Better still, most of the dresses on our list won’t cost you more than what you’d pay at your local boutique for a quality dress, so you’ll be looking great, living green, and doing it all without breaking the bank.

1. Doie Melrose Dress, $114

If you’ve been obeying the “no white after Labor Day” rule your whole life, throw it aside this holiday season. Not only does arctic white actually fit the feel of December, it helps you stand out from the Christmas party crowd—especially when paired with sultry red lips (like Bare Escentuals Natural Lipcolor in Red Zin). Organic cotton fabric on the Melrose Dress feels good for the planet, and the pockets and soft, stretchy fit feel good for you (even after a few too many Christmas cookies).

2. Patagonia Eva Luna Dress, $85.00

Bound to be a dress you’ll wear year round, the Eva Luna (in season-appropriate Garnet) has the magical ability to look right at both a holiday cocktail party and a summer bonfire, and the nylon/spandex blend ensures you can show off your curves in comfort. Once you wear it out (we’re confident you’ll put it on often enough to do so) recycle it through Patagonia’s Common Threads Recycling Program and it’ll find new life as another article of clothing.

zoica-matei-ella-dress

3. Zoica Matei Ella Dress, $130

If you want something a little edgier for your holiday affairs, the Ella dress fits the bill. A mandarin collar, double slits and a sash add a bit of modern intrigue, and one of the oldest fabrics (hemp!) keeps things eco-friendly. Feeling proud of your workout plan results? Wear the Ella bare-legged with boots. A little shyer? Tights are always in fashion during the winter months.

elwood-swoop-v-neck-dress

4. Elwood Swoop V-Neck Dress, $50

You can’t beat the Swoop dress when it comes to price, but we like it for more than just its bargain. It’s a great choice for more casual Christmas-time get togethers (imagine the improved picture potential if you throw this on instead of pajamas for gift opening), but can still be dressed up. Plus, this bamboo-crafted creation can be made work-worthy with a cardigan and a pair of leggings.

beau-soleil-beau-capture-dress

5. Beau Soleil Beau Capture Dress, $98.00

Gone are the days where an evening out meant donning your floor length gown, but you can resurrect some of the sophistication of to-the-floor finery in the Beau Capture dress, which has a faint Roman feel, and is made from 100% bamboo (we’ll warn you now that it does require drycleaning). Snatch this one up quickly, though, because it’s on sale for $98 (down from its regular $250) and won’t last long.
