Celebrities Gone Green: Ed Begley Jr. Fights Fox News

Almost as synonymous with environmentalism as Al Gore, Ed Begley Jr. tends to be a go-to guy for thoughts on events in the green world, and in the wake of the recent leaked climate e-mails—and their subsequent controversy—Begley showed up at a rather shocking spot to discuss the hot topic: Fox News. Sitting alongside the ultra-conservative Stuart Varney, Begley talked briefly about the climate e-mails situation before the exchange between activist and anchorman escalated into more of a shouting match than an interview.
Of course, the idea of a Fox News anchor and the greenest guy in Hollywood getting into it isn’t exactly shocking, but the event does highlight the fevered pitch that’s been reached in the weeks leading up to Copenhagen as anti-global warming activists launch an online battle against environmentalists.
In fact, when eco-friendly gossip site Ecorazzi mentioned the Ed Begley Jr./Stuart Varney showdown in one of its post, so many anti-climate change web warriors attacked the post that one could almost forget they were on a a green-focused site. But the appearance of anything-but-environmentalists on a host of eco-friendly sites has been common in the past few weeks, with some individuals determining the climate change e-mails to be final proof the global warming is a hoax and a conspiracy—despite the majority of the scientific community saying otherwise.
We think Ed Begley Jr. makes some solid points in his brief but loud appearance on Fox News (like the suggestion that people should read peer review studies instead of trusting actors or news anchors) and we’re also more than a little confused by Stuart Varney’s dismay at not being able to buy incandescent light bulbs—in two to four years—and his belief that’s going to have to put a warning label on his house should cap and trade agreements go through. But you can watch the interview here to decide for yourself who came out on top.
