Top 5 Eco-Friendly Fall Dresses
In honor of the recently-ended fall fashion week in New York, we’ve assembled five of our favorite environmentally-conscious dresses for autumn.
1. JUMA BUBBLE DRESS
The Juma Bubble Dress follows a classic fashion rule: If you’re going to show a lot of leg, best keep your upper half under wraps. The bubble bottom keeps things interesting and the tie front prevents that “sack” look that only works on runway models (pair it with dark tights and an eye-catching scarf or earrings to add to your look). As a company, JUMA is helping to create a more eco-focused Canadian fashion industry and use organic cotton and bamboo fabrics.
2. DAY TO NIGHT DRESS
The Day to Night Dress from Organic Style is one of those clothing items that everyone can agree on. It’s classic, simple, comfortable and will take you through many fads in the fashion world. It’s also made in New York in a sweatshop-free environment using bamboo jersey. The cinch detailing on the sleeves differentiates this from your average turtleneck dress (though it will keep you warm just as well). Tap into the 70s revival of fall runways by pairing this with knee-high boots and a belt or go more demure with ballet flats and sleek hair.
3. THE BATTALION BOUDICCARA DRESS
If you’re looking for something a little sexy but still work-friendly, the Boudiccara Dress by The Battalion should be your pick for fall. It’s available in black and navy (one of the more popular colors for this season) and is full of little touches that make this look: a zippered front, leg of mutton sleeves that create a romantic curve to the arm and an inverted box pleat on the center back. In short, it’s a designers dream. And it’s created from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. Wear it as is if you’re brave and not too busty, otherwise add a sleek camisole underneath.
4. DOIE LODGEPOLE DRESS
You want sleeves for fall, plain and simple. Sure there’s the occasional Indian Summer and, yes, you can always put on a sweater. But sometimes it’s nice to be able to be warm without having to add anything else and the Doie Lodgepole Dress will keep your cozy without costing you any of your fashion sense. A simple boatneck available in black and beet, it’s got those long sleeves you need plus side tie detailing at the hem and wrist. If that weren’t enough to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, know that your covering yourself up in sustainable, biodegrable bamboo jersey grown without pesticides. Try it with brown or tan boots and one of the funky hats that are everywhere this fall for a fun weekend look.
5. NATURE VS FUTURE MOCK DOUBLE BREASTED SWEATER DRESS
This is the dress you’re going to get all the comments on this fall. Whether it’s over faux double-breasted look over the front, the eclectic eggplant color, the form-flattering cut or the early 60s appearance, it’s hard to go unnoticed in the Mock Double Breasted Sweater Dress. You’ll want to wear this with simple accessories and makeup and, like a lot of the fall looks, tights can really complete this look. The green aspect of this purple wonder? It’s made in the USA from 100% organic cotton.
