Transparent Deluxe Chlorine Removing Shower Filter Keeps the Chlorine Out of Your Clean
To lower our bills and go easier on their environment, many of us have switched to low flow shower heads. It’s a smart, easy way to get green and save money. But while we’ve been paying more attention to how much water we’re using, we’re not always aware of what all is in it. A lot of concern is now being raised over the effects of chlorine on our health and most of it is tied to the chlorine we get through our tap water (where there is sometimes more chlorine found than is deemed safe for a swimming pool). Chlorine has been in our water, openly, for years with little complaint, as it keeps diseases from transporting through our water systems, but think about this: When you shower, your pores are opened in the warmth and your skin begins to act like a giant sponge, absorbing water directly into blood stream–and with it, chlorine. Coupled with the inhalation of chlorine in you water when you shower, you can absorb more chlorine in a shower than by drinking several glasses of water that contained the same amount of chlorine.
The U.S. Council of Environmental Quality has stated that “cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine” and the American Journal of Public Health has said that “up to 2/3 of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorbtion during showering”. It’s a frightening thought and enough to make one want to step out of the shower for good. A better option is a Chlorine Removing Shower Filter, like the Transparent Deluxe Filter from Green Home, which eliminates at least 90% of the chlorine in your water and features a transparent filter so you can know when it needs changing. Beyond alleviating health concerns you may have about chlorine, it’s also been found to result in healthier hair and skin.

I’ve done some work for the American Chemistry Council, and we just celebrated 100 years of chlorine, one of the best ways (as you mentioned) to ensure that our water is safe for consumption and play. The cancer “risk” is highly overstated - the risk you run by bathing in and consuming non-chlorinated water is MUCH higher than utilizing non-chlorinated H20.

I believe humans are smart enough to find ways to find safe ways of sanitizing our water which do not include chemicals that are dangerous. I don’t care what any chemical council or health nut wants to tell me. From my perspective, its simply a matter of common sense– if I can’t drink chlorine straight, I don’t want to inhale or absorb it in my shower or drink it in my water. At all.
Again, I know we’re smart enough to find ways to make our water safe without making it hazardous again. When it comes to my shower, a filter works for me.

Greg, I think you missed the point of the filter. The filter is removing the chlorine just before it hits you in the shower, hardly time for the safety benefits of chlorine to be negated but it keeps your body from having to absorb it. IOW, this device doesn’t increase the risk to the levels of having a totally non-chlorinated water supply as you are suggesting.
Tanya, there are LOTS of things that you can’t ‘drink straight’ that are otherwise benign or beneficial in smaller quantities. You can die from drinking too much water! Dose makes the poison.
