It wasn’t long ago that all the big green celebrity names were pushing the Prius (DiCaprio and Diaz to name just two), but these days are taking to the streets of tinseltown in a different ride: The Tesla Roadster.

While the Prius was greener than the vast majority of the cars on the market at the time it debuted, it’s not hard to see why the Roadster is quickly becoming the eco-friendly “it” car of Hollywood. And it’s not just because of the recent Toyota recalls.

Where the Prius has a bubble-shaped hatchback, the Roadster is all sleek lines and smooth curves, and where the Prius emits a hint of “soccer mom” or, at the very least, seems perfect for practical tasks like hitting the grocery store, the Roadster would almost look out of place doing anything so mundane.

Lest we forget the arguably biggest incentive for eco-friendly celebrities to switch vehicles (not an entirely green action in itself), the all-electric design of the Tesla Roadster does trump the Toyota Prius in terms of environmental advantages.

Of course, there’s a big disadvantage that comes with the luxury design and engine components of the Roadster EV too, and that’s part of the reason why celebrities are some of the only people driving Roadsters so far. At more than $100,000, the Tesla Roadster is far from affordable—another reason it’s been a hit in Hollywood.

So which big names are going electric? Some serious A-listers, including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, George Clooney,  and Arnold Schwarzenegger (he had to get rid of the Hummer sometime, right?). And, with a new version of the Roadster just unveiled, there may be even more famous fans soon.
