Deux FM Kat Dress is Edgy But Still Innocent

deux-fm-kat-dress

One of the biggest advancements in eco-friendly fashion has been the integration of edgy pieces. Sure, it’s nice to have a flowing maxi dress for summer, but just because you want to wear things that won’t hurt the environment doesn’t mean you should have to live in light, loose-cut clothing that doubles as yoga wear. Thanks to an ever-increasing number of designers with eco-motivation, however, there are green options to suit even the edgiest of us.

A prime example of eco-friendly fashion that doesn’t sacrifice state of the art style is the Canadian-crafted Deux FM line and a perfect offering from the company for women with a flair for something more eye-catching is the Kat dress, which is created entirely from reused and recycled materials. Available in two colors (black and an oatmeal-esque twig), the Kat dress functions as a cocktail dress that blends nice and spice with a demure flared skirt against a more risque fitted bodice, spaghetti straps and on-trend slouchy pockets.

We love everything about the Kat dress, but its textiles should get special praise; recycled fabrics are one of the most underused options for eco-friendly clothing and, in reality, the greenest. Bamboo may use less pesticides in its growth, but once its softened to fabric form the environmental aspect has been seriously diminished, and organic cotton is certainly a better alternative to conventional cotton, but still requires the use of resources. Top 5 Eco-Friendly Halloween Costumes for Little Ones

While the 5 years and under crowd may not be so set on dressing up for Halloween, it’s definitely fun for parents to snap a few photos and make a few memories of their little ones looking adorable as things like pumpkins and princesses. Of course, buying a tiny tot costume for just one night of use doesn’t make much environmental sense. Likewise, you don’t want to deviate from the eco-friendly baby clothing you normally choose for your youngster. Here are five costume ideas for babies and toddlers that are green, easy to assemble, and reusable throughout the year (in non-costume contexts). Get out that camera!

1. Little Lamb

Cuddly creature costumes are always a favorite (bear, cat cow, etc.), and this version utilizes a snuggly Speesees Fair Trader organic sherpa cotton jacket—dyed with eco-friendly dyes—to transform a tyke into a little lamb. Pair the jacket with white Under the Nile Egyptian organic cotton romper pants to finish off the look; they’re eco-friendly and made under great green working conditions (all employees receive two organic meals during their workday). After Halloween, you’ll have one baby basic and one fun take on outerwear to use year round. Click here to read more

Celebrities Gone Green: Wyclef Jean Teams Up With Timberland

Wyclef Jean, the socially-active solo artist and former member of The Fugees, falls pretty far from any music video stereotypes in his real life. He’s frequently performing at benefit concerts, started his own nonprofit foundation (Yéle Haiti), is a Haitian Goodwill Ambassador, and has now joined the ranks of the Timberland Earthkeeper Heroes, a group of eco-focused individuals that Timberland has assembled to promote going green.

Timberland, like Wyclef Jean, has switched things up from their reputation (as a construction-site staple) to become one of the greenest shoe companies around, and it’s rare that a month goes by without the shoe company making an appearance on the Greenzer blog, whether it’s for a new LEED-certified store or a new addition to their seriously eco-focused Earthkeeper shoe line. By joining together with Wyclef Jean, Timberland is hoping to aid in his environmental and humanitarian efforts in his native Haiti and give Timberland-wearers a chance to do the same. A Greener T-Shirt for the 80s Trend

buddha-says-relax-tee

If you’re planning on an 80s throwback for Halloween (or everyday fashion, for that matter) but want to add a deeper edge to your ensemble, we have just the shirt for you—in fact, we have probably the only shirt that fits that description. This Buddha Say Relax tee from Gaiam is a witty play on the uber-popular Frankie Say Relax t-shirts that were everywhere after the band Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit it big, but this new version makes a lot more sense, with Buddha, instead of Frankie, dishing out the advice.

Even those born in the 90s will be able to appreciate the reminder to mellow out from whatever they’re doing, and Frankie fans and non-Frankie fans alike should be able to get behind the fact that this Buddha Say Relax tee is made from 100% organic cotton that’s dyed with low-impact eco-friendly dyes (something you couldn’t find in the original Frankie Say Relax tees). Celebrities Gone Green: Miley Cyrus Stacks on Alex and Ani Bracelets

Miley Cyrus is considered one of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-comers and can already cause a scandal like the best of them, but when it comes to shopping, we’re glad to see she’s already learning to incorporate some greener choices—even if her carbon footprint would benefit more from her getting rid of her private jet. Cyrus has been spotted all over LA with a stack of Alex and Ani bangles on her wrist, and she’s not the only tinseltown star who loves the Bohemian-inspired line: Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Simpson are just a few who consider the brand a favorite.

It’s no wonder the Alex and Ani jewelery is so popular, either, with their big stacks of bangles fitting in with the layered look and their charm details adding some unique flair (their signature design has made them a constant feature in plenty of magazines). One of the best aspects of the Carolyn Rafaelian-designed line, however, is the fact that all the pieces are made from eco-friendly materials, like recycled brass, and are crafted right here in the United States.
