Five Eco-Friendly Sleeping Bags

When you go camping and gaze up at the stars before you drift to sleep, do you ever think about what makes up your sleeping bag? Next time, buy one of these eco-friendly sleeping bags made from recycled materials and natural fibers.

Sierra Designs Lazer 30 Sleeping Bag: This ultralight sleeping bag won’t weigh you down at 2 lbs and it won’t leave you to hot in the summer either thanks to a vent at the foot of the bag. The insulation inside gives it an eco edge–it’s recycled.

Big Agnes Lost Dog Sleeping Bag: Like to be comfy even when you’re snoozing on the ground? This bag has a special pocket to hold your camping pillow. The soft PirmaLoft Eco insulation is made from recycled plastic bottles. Click here to read more

Have a Solar-Powered Barbeque

This Fourth of July or the next time you go camping, skip the debate over whether charcoal or gas grilling is more eco-friendly and cook with the sun instead. The Solar Sport Oven with Reflector might surprise you with its functionality. It may be more MacGyver than Martha Stewart, but you can cook just about everything including roast meats, steamed veggies, soups and even baked good like breads and cookies (really!). Imagine if you’re out boating for the afternoon and you present fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to your guests.

The Solar Oven is built to concentrate the sun’s energy to cook food in two to four hours. If it’s cool or cloudy, no problem, the extra reflector helps boost the power nature offers on any given day. The oven is made to maintain temperatures around 210-260 degrees. You’ll never achieve microwave speeds, but at least it’s less messy than a campfire.

The oven also comes with two pots, a thermometer so you can gauge your cooking times and effectiveness, a water pasteurization indicator and a recipe book–no one expects you to be a whiz at solar oven cooking without help! You won’t pollute or use any energy for your cooking, plus portions of the kit are made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

Brunton Glorb Extra Bright Lantern: A Bright Idea

brunton_glorb_led_lantern
We’re all for the gentle glow of fire light. It’s perfect for sitting down to a scary story or a s’more (preferably one with yummy natural marshmallows). But when it comes to things like prepping a campsite dinner or a nighttime “what were those strange noises” investigation, it’s nice to have something that will really light up your life.

Lit by LED, the choice for a greener glow, The Brunton Glorb Extra-Bright LED 1-Watt Lantern will light your path (or tent) at the press of a button. The LED is a more environmentally-friendly choice than traditional light bulb lamps or petroleum-derived kerosene options, and if you make sure to use rechargeable batteries, the eco-conscious element is even bigger.
