Celebrities Gone Green: Kerry Washington Sleeps Under the Canopy

Kerry Washington is a green celebrity, there’s no doubt about it, but thanks to a little encouragement and aid from the queen of television herself (we’re speaking of Oprah, of course), her new apartment in West Hollywood has been retrofitted for a better—and greener—aesthetic.

The eco-friendly apartment makeover is part of this month’s issue of O magazine, which is on stands now. The article features before and after pics of the apartment (you can also view a few of them on the O magazine site) and plenty of details on how designer Danny Seo was able to spruce up Washington’s bland apartment without veering from her green focus. The very first steps toward a greener home were completed by Washington herself when she picked an apartment that was within walking distance to her local farmer’s market, meaning she doesn’t have to drive to pick up local and organic goods that have a reduced impact on the planet. Of course, even if she was driving, Washington would be in her hybrid Prius.

For the makeover, Danny Seo incorporated more color in Washington’s apartment by using VOC-free paints. Click here to read more

“Do Just One Thing” to Make 2008 Greener

Daily Greenz #82

OfficecalendardojustonethingbydannyEco-friendly giant Danny Seo has been making a big
splash with his Simply Green books, which cover everything from creating a
greener home to throwing festive parties that are sensitive to the environment and your wallet. His focus is, as his titles indicate,
simplicity, and his new 2008 “Do Just One Thing” calendar runs along the same
theme of simple actions you can take on a daily basis to make your life a
little greener this year. His 366 eco-tips
(leap year!) are clever and inexpensive, such as recycling the black tape from
your old videotapes as gift-wrapping ribbon or unplugging your cell phone
charger when it’s not in use. His last
tip even tells you how to recycle the whole calendar, so following all his tips
will ensure that the calendar pays for itself. Prop his calendar on your desk for $19.99 at www.amazon.com and recycle his tips by
sharing them with your coworkers.
