Looks like the cast of Gossip Girl is taking a page out of the cast of Entourage’s book: they’ve greened the show’s set by banning plastic water bottles and cups and replacing them with reusable ones. Not only that, but the cast and the CW have also put together a video, with sponsorship from the National Resources Defense Council and Stop Global Warming to encourage viewers to do the same. Cast members Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, and Leighton Meester suggest carrying resusable mugs, throwing on a sweater instead of wasting energy, and canceling magazine subscriptions. Could this be the influence of ultra green fellow cast member Kelly Rutherford?

Greenzer Goes to France
Last Wednesay, we launched the public beta of Greenzer in France at www.greenzer.fr. The site opened its doors with over 5,000 products from over 30 retailers. This is our first launch outside of the US and we’re excited to make this announcement such a short time after our public beta launch in the US on Earth Day ‘08.
In the Fall of 2007, I was introduced to two really bright web veterans in France that were writing a business plan for a green consumer website. Their plans focused on creating a place for consumers to learn about and shop for eco-friendly products and services online. Sound familiar? As Greenzer was a bit further down the path, we decided to join our efforts and the result of this collaboration is greenzer.fr. Click here to read more

The Cost of Coffee
Daily Greenz #38
The Black Gold documentary (which debuted at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival to explosive reviews) is now out on DVD. Directors Marc and Nick Francis explore the uncomfortably wide gap between the prices that consumers pay for a cup of coffee vs. the poverty wages that farmers receive for the coffee beans. It is an equation that equals huge profit margins for corporations like Starbucks, who don’t purchase fair trade beans that are readily available for a marginally higher price.
To educate yourself about the cost of coffee, pick up the DVD for $26.95 at newsreel.org.

To-Go Ware makes plasticware a thing of the past
Once you check out To-Go Ware’s reusable bamboo utensil set, disposable plastic ware will seem grossly antiquated. This kit comes with flatware and chopsticks that are sustainable, durable and reusable.
In addition, the stylish cotton carry case is hand-crafted by refugee women living on the Thai-Burma border. The women are part of WEAVE, a women’s cooperative. Purchases not only help the environment, they also provide much needed income to these women and their communities.
Pick them up for $19.95 and get into the habit of carrying them with you everywhere. Check out reusablebags.com to purchase.
