Baby’s Bath Filled With Allergens

Chemists from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) studied personal care products and found 15 common fragrance allergens. With those chemicals in mind, the researchers examined bath water samples of babies between six months and two years old. So what did they find? According to the study published in this month’s Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry journal, every bath had at least six of the 15 allergens floating around in the water.

This is a cause for concern because some of the levels were considered to be high concentrations. Not only do most babies splash around in the bath for 15 minutes or more each day, but while they’re there they can also absorb the chemicals in the water through their skin, inhale the particles and even drink the water. Besides the potential toxins, babies have sensitive skin as it is, so fragrance-free products are usually best.

To stay on the safe side, bathe your baby in natural and organic baby care products. Click here to read more

Go Green, Baby!

Slathering chemical-laden personal care products on adult skin can increase your body burden as the toxins are absorbed. But babies absorb even more through their skin and are also more susceptible to that absorption of ingredients both good and bad. Lafe’s green baby line offers vegan, cruelty-free, organic products that you can feel good about using on your little one.

The green baby collection includes foaming shampoo and wash, baby oil, baby lotion and even insect repellent–and all four products are 95% certified organic. Aside from the long list of organic ingredients like coconut oil, aloe and sunflower seed oil you won’t find any parabens, propylene glycol, sulfates or artificial preservatives, dyes or colors. Everything in the line is fragrance-free and hypoallergenic for sensitive baby skin. Click here to read more

Cool Mom Picks Shows Greenzer Some Love

Cool_mom_picks

Not much feels better than realizing others appreciate what you do - which is why we were so psyched that CoolMomPicks gave us a shout out the other day. Thanks, CMP!

Cool Mom Picks is one of the coolest mommy-geared sites we’ve seen - it’s no forum for helicopter parents. The moms behind the site, Liz and Kristen, have struck the perfect chord with women who see their role as mother as part of who they are rather than their entire selves. CMP’s writers shows moms that their own individuality and motherhood are perfectly compatible concepts, sharing always-cool product and service picks selected from non-mainstream, independent, often eco-friendly designers and companies.

From face cream for moms to organic cotton crib bedding for kids to safer anti-bacterial soap for the whole family, Cool Mom Picks always hits the nail right on the head. And they do it all without trying to convince real mothers they can’t live without that ridiculously overpriced stroller that Kate Hudson has, because none of their picks are paid for by advertisers. Daily Greenz #157

Greenzer applauds stars who use their celebrity status to raise awareness about living eco-friendly, from cruising around in hybrid cars to composting. Julia Roberts is particularly committed to reducing the amount of waste she and her family produce. Roberts used chlorine-free, non-toxic diapers for twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and was introduced to gDiapers when newest addition Henry came along. The flushable diapers, comprised of a reusable outer cover and flushable lining, cut down on the 50 million disposable diapers that are tossed in landfills yearly and don’t begin to decompose for up to 500 years. GDiapers’ Cradle to Cradle certification means that every material used to make these flushables is absorbed back into the ecosystem with no negative impact.
