Recycled Glass Blooms

As being eco becomes more mainstream, it’s wonderful to find artful decor pieces that have green qualities. Many small artisans are turning to sustainable materials to make their pieces unique. This Bloom in Blue coat rack for example was made by Dan Quaynor, a designer from Ghana. The focal point of the piece, the flowers, are made by recycling glass in the same way one would make glass beads, melting and forming the small pieces.

What’s great is that even though it’s an affordable handcrafted piece, the sea blue and iron combo are right on trend with the current colors in home decor. When visitors from your home ask where you got it, you can surprise them with a compelling story from West Africa rather than a boring, “West Elm” response.

The coat rack also helps save the earth since it doesn’t require a massive factory for manufacture.  Click here to read more

Eco-Friendly Furniture to Dine Al Fresco

Dine al fresco this summer and not only will you be able to enjoy the great outdoors, but also you can help lower your carbon footprint a bit. When you’re eating outside, you won’t need to use energy for lighting or air conditioning. Plus, if you cook outside on a grill, you can often get the job done faster and with less of a carbon cost than you could have inside.

So give your backyard space a makeover with eco-friendly furniture. This Tofino Table and Armchair set is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certifed wood. And the wood they chose is an eco-friendly choice too: eucalyptus. The fast-growing tree can be harvested frequently making it a sustainable material. What’s more, eucalyptus is  a hard wood and it’s as durable as the popular patio furniture material teak. The difference?  Click here to read more

Set the Mood with Soy Candles

Looking for an eco-friendly way to make your home smell amazing? Soy candles are your best bet. Traditional home fragrances usually just increase your indoor air pollution. Room sprays mist synthetic fragrances and toxic chemicals into the air. And conventional candles aren’t any better–many of them are made from petroleum-derived paraffin and a host of other bad chemicals that get released into the air when they burn. Soy candles on the other hand burn toxin-free. Here are three to try:

Bsab Deep Summer Soy Candle: Can’t wait for beach season to arrive? Bring the scents of summer into your home with this 100% soy candle pictured here. Bsab’s fragrances are formulated from 100% pure essential oils. This candle includes a balancing mix of rosemary, ylang, ylang, lavender, bergamot and Peru balam. Plus, all candles are packaged in eco-friendly recyclable packaging.

Paddywax Fresh Grass Soy Eco Candle: What better way to infuse your home with a fresh seasonal scent than with a fresh grass scented soy candle? A fun option for city dwellers who might miss that fresh cut grass smell, this fragrance is actually a blend of clover blossoms, sage and sweet celery seed. Click here to read more

The Rule of Three: VivaTerra’s Recycled Glass Balloon Vases

viva-terra-recycled-glass-balloon-vases

Decorators have long recommended following the ‘Rule of Three’ when accessorizing your home. Grouping items together in threes or odd numbers is an easy, inexpensive way to keep things interesting and polished looking.

The varying heights, rounded shapes, and dimpled texture of VivaTerra’s Recycled Glass Balloon Vases instantly spruces up tabletops, mantles, or windowsills. Plus, you’ll feel a bit better knowing that you’re consuming a product that’s had a past life – you’re supporting sustainability, not disposability.

We think they’d look smashing filled with flowers or something unexpected, like dried branches, pebbles or sand.
