Target’s latest gotta-have-it fashion launch is a little different from their usual GO International featured fashion designers like Loomstate’s Spring 2009 collection. This time, they’re experimenting in upcycled fashion. From Labor Day weekend through October 31, Target’s Times Square billboards will feature commissioned art from Michael Anderson, Josh Goldstein and other emerging artists. But what happens after the billboards come down is the most exciting–the vinyl billboards will be made into 1,600 limited-edition bags.
Not only will you get a piece of the art that was on-display high above Times Square, the upcycled bag is a tote designed by Anna Sui. 90% of each bag will be made from the vinyl billboard material, and have a few add-ons such as black enamel studs and other rock-and-roll details.
The eco-friendly bags go on sale on Target.com today, Friday, September 4, for $29.99. Click here to read more

The ‘it’ fashion accessory of last fall and winter is back again. Even the trendiest of trends seem to stick around as a second wave of late-to-adapt fashionistas accept the look. Luckily, the scarf is one accessory that’s easy for just about everyone to wear and it’s an affordable way to update your style without buying a whole new wardrobe.
While you can find plenty of eco-friendly scarves including organic cotton scarves in every color of the rainbow and hemp wraps, the Reclaimed T-Shirt Scarf from Uncommon Goods offers something unique. This recycled scarf takes the comfort of the classic old worn-in t-shirt to the next level, letting you wrap yourself up in a bunch of them.
Have you ever thought about what happens to all the fabric scraps that are generated inside apparel factories? Click here to read more

It wouldn’t be fall back-to-school fashion season without Gap jeans staring you down on all of your shopping trips. This year, Gap redid their entire line and introduced their 1969 Premium Jeans. While the jeans aren’t made from organic cotton or in anyway green, you can catch an eco accessory in the store windows–Timberland boots.
Timberland Earthkeepers 6″ Leather Boots are the eco-friendly footwear of choice for jean-clad Gap mannequins nationwide. For guys who rock the casual jean look, Earthkeepers finish it off well. The rugged mens boots feature organic cotton laces, solvent-free adhesives, recycled rubber outsoles and recycled EVA inside along with recycled PET lining. While the leather boots are, well, made of leather, they’re not vegan or animal-friendly, but they are organically tanned.
Plus, company-wide, Timberland is an eco-conscious company. Click here to read more

Keds and Loomstate have come together to bring you some great new kicks in fun new patterns. If you’re a fan of Loomstate designers Rogan Gregory and Scott Hahn you may recognize some of their signature prints. In true 80s style, the shoes are lace-free and come in five different women’s designs with lots of colors to choose from.
The shoes are made from 100 percent organic canvas, 100 percent recycled insole board, with a gum rubber sole. But the designers didn’t stop there with their eco-friendly efforts, the packaging is minimal, too. While most new shoes are stuffed with and surrounded by tissue, these Keds are tissue free and come in reused, recycled shoe boxes. Click here to read more

Whether you’re roaming city streets or hitting the beach, flip flops are a must for summer. Luckily, you can stock up on the staple with sustainable styles. Here, five of our favorites.

Rafters Antiqua Thong: This is the perfect transition pair of flip flops. They’ve got enough style to slip on with a sundress for a Saturday of shopping, and they’re waterproof so you can wear them surf side without worry. The straps are made from recycled PET. The outsole and midsole are made from partially recycled rubber and recycled EVA molding respectively.

Reef Lorne Sandal: Available in basic brown or black this flip flop is sure to become a favorite. Reef gathered lots of recycled parts to make this pair happen. The straps are chrome-free leather (meaning it required less chemicals for processing) and adorned with recycled scrap metal grommets. The midsoles are made from recycled EVA and the outsoles from recycled rubber. And 1 percent of the sales are donated to non-profit environmental foundations. Click here to read more
