Her sister, Zooey Deschanel, may get a bit more press these days thanks to box office flicks like 500 Days of Summer and musical performances in the group She & Him, but when it comes to the world of green, older sibling Emily Deschanel is the name everyone knows.
The eldest Deschanel adheres to a strict vegan diet, gets around in a Prius, and reveres Ed Begley Jr. as an eco-friendly role model. Even at work on her hit show Bones, Emily Deschanel is always advocating those around her to get greener by using biodegradable plates and utensils and reusable aluminum water bottles (you can also spot her wearing some eco-friendly accessories, like recycled gold necklaces, on screen).
Further dispelling the myth that going green means giving up fashion and beauty products, Emily Deschanel stays on trend in Hollywood without wavering on her environmental lifestyle. Click here to read more

Please don’t think that Cameron Diaz’s green lifestyle ends at her driving a Prius. Yes, she does own one of the famous hybrids, but she, like any smart eco-activist, knows better than to think that buying a more fuel-efficient vehicle is enough. She’s a woman who packs her own thermos when she hits the coffee shop and laments when she has to purchase a plastic bottle of water (even if it’s bound for recycling). She reads green books, visits green websites, shops at the farmer’s market and flea markets, and opts for organic and natural fashion when available. And along with all that she finds time to shoot a movie or two.
Diaz’s latest feature film isn’t about a trio of femme fatales battling bad guys under the command of a man named Charlie or about a lovable princess/ogre; it’s a short eco-doc that Cameron filmed with a small crew she gathered. In it, she (and her gang) travel across the U.S. in hybrid SUVs asking everyday people questions to find out what they know about where their food and water come from and what their air is like, and then discusses the findings with experts on the subjects (including Van Jones, special advisor for green jobs, enterprise and innovation at the White House). By now you probably know that it’s easy to find a celebrity spilling their thoughts (in 140 characters or less) on Twitter—sometimes to the point that they’ll end up wishing they hadn’t—but the chirping social site can be used for more than just gossip and a peek into a lifestyle you’ll likely never be able to afford, Twitter can be a place to learn and to speak out (as in the case of the Iran opposition protests). So why not follow a few green celebrities who will let you into their jetset lifestyles (or electric car lifestyles) and, in the process, give you some ideas on the environment and what you can do to improve things. Here’s our list of 10 green celebrities who tweet (don’t have a Twitter? You can sign up here):
1. Ed Begley Jr., actor and author (edbegleyjr)
You can’t talk about green celebrities without mentioning Ed Begley Jr., who’s just as famous for his electric car promoting as he is for his roles at this point. On his Twitter you’ll find links to his website, excerpts from his book and notices providing you with plenty of places to check out Ed in person. Click here to read more

Actress Sarah Jane Morris isn’t a household name—yet—although she starred in the Will Smith film Seven Pounds and appears weekly on ABC’s Brothers and Sisters, but if you measure celebrities on their eco-friendliness alone, Morris would be as A-list as they come. A big motivator in her decision to get green was An Inconvenient Truth (as it was for so many people), but an environmental scientist brother and a husband eager for a low-impact lifestyle also helped facilitate the change.
Now Morris drives around in an old Mercedes she had modified to run on veggie diesel and she’s been known to lurk the back alleys near sushi restaurants around the time they toss their tempura oil (which she says is the cleanest for the car). Even with her green vehicle, however, Morris tries to walk, bike and carpool to reduce her time on the road. At home she has a worm compost where she composts all she can and is using the compost to plant her organic vegetable garden. Impressed? We are. Click here to read more

It’s very possible the last time you thought about Corey Feldman he was experiencing pre-teen angst on screen with the rest of the Stand By Me cast or getting into trouble with The Goonies, but the classic 80s star is making a comeback. He recently starred in the A&E hit The Two Coreys alongside fellow 80s film star Corey Haim and his band, Truth Movement, is in full swing. In the eighties, Feldman’s face was one of the most recognized and his fame had some real star power, however, after a string of questionable movie choices (seriously Corey, Bikini Bandits?) Feldman was starting to fade. One thing that never dissipated for the teen star, though, was his commitment to charity work.
Three of Feldman’s favorite areas of charity work are animals, children and the environment—he says he likes to lend a voice to those who can’t represent themselves—and he’s a great example of a celebrity who’s dedication to a better environment hasn’t waxed and waned as success fluctuated, and he urges everyone to do what they can in their own lives to improve things for every one. When it comes to the environment, he encourages people to start with the small steps, like choosing only biodegradable products, separating plastics and metals for recycling and remembering to turn off lights when not in use.
