Interested in green electronics?

Greenzer CES

Jeremy Arditi (Greenzer co-founder) to speak on CES Green Electronics Panel: January 8th, 2009

Join me at CES on January 8th to hear more about  the state of green electronics.  I will be participating in a panel entitled  Going Green: More than a Label alongside the following industry experts:

  • John Frey, Manager of Corporate Environmental Strategies, Hewlett-Packard
  • Robert Scaglione, Senior Vice President, Product & Marketing Group, Sharp Electronics
  • David Thompson, President, Electronics Manufacturers Recycling Management
  • Mike Trainor, Chief Mobile Technology Evangelist, Intel

For the uninitiated, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is THE annual gathering in consumer electronics. Each year, Las Vegas turns into a geek’s paradise on earth for a few days. Over 2,700 consumer electronics exhibitors show up to show and tell what the latest in electronics and gadgetry is.

Given our passion for green electronics at Greenzer, our development of the Greenzer Score and my upcoming participation at the ‘09 CES, we’re going to be providing some in-depth coverage from the front-lines in Vegas. Is it hype? Are the economic conditions forcing companies to reduce their research in environmental areas? Do consumers actually care? These are all questions we’ll try to  answer from the show. Check back in regularly for pre, during and post coverage. Also, feel free to reach out if you’ll be attending.

Nokia Makes a Good Call with Eco-friendly Cell Phones

Daily Greenz #89

Electronicsnokiacellphone_3
Cell phones have long been a thorn in the flesh of environmentalists, who decry the 130 million cell phones that Americans throw out every year, creating 65,000 tons of trash, including toxic metals and other health hazards. Nokia has finally heard their cry and taken the lead to create eco-mobile products that are made of plant-based plastics and recycled steel, and use much less energy than their hazardous counterparts. They unveiled the 3110 Evolve at their world conference last year, which was a big hit with Greenpeace because it’s made of 50% recycled materials and totes an energy-efficient charger, which uses 94% less energy than Energy Star requirements and
automatically shuts off once the phone is fully charged.
