Plan a Nature Staycation

Studies show that kids who go outside to play and explore have lower stress levels and may even build better confidence and social skills. They also tend to have higher test scores at school. And helping kids experience and appreciate nature is one important step in ensuring they’ll grow up to be eco-conscious adults. So if the recession has you planning a staycation rather than a vacation, Nature Rocks wants you to do it outside. The organization founded by the Children & Nature Network and ecoAmerica wants to encourage families to find nature in their neighborhoods and discover how easy it is to enjoy the great outdoors.

Nature Rocks’ search engine will locate a destination (forest, trail, arboretum, zoo), activity (hiking, rafting, fishing, wildlife watch) or service (tour guides, outfitters, clubs, camp sites) near you. Get your kids geared up for the adventure with hiking boots, sunscreen, bug repellant, sun hats and water bottles. Click here to read more
