Sometimes it’s the littlest things that can start to make a difference. If you’re a coffee junkie and make a pot of Joe at least once a day, think of all those coffee filters that end up in the trash. Instead, you could use reusable hemp coffee filters.
Some say your coffee will taste better. But there’s no question that you’ll be doing good by saving trees and supporting a hemp, a fast growing crop. Besides, you’ll save money by not having to buy a box of filters every month. Next up? Look for fair trade and organic brews.

Paper napkins rank up there in the super wasteful category with toilet paper and tissues. Think about all the paper napkins you and your family go through at a meal at home and all the extra napkins you grab to guaruntee you won’t run out and get stuck looking like a slob when you’re eating on the go. Last year, Oprah urged everyone to use one less paper napkin every day. But you can do better.
According to the NRDC if every US household replaced one pack of 250-count virgin fiber napkins with 100% recycled ones, 1 million trees could be saved. You could start buying Seventh Generation 100% recycled napkins made from 80% post-consumer recycled content. Or you could take it one step further and give up paper napkins altogether. Furry, adorable little Fido couldn’t be making much of an impact on the environment could he? Well, dog fanatics might not want to think about all the plastic doggy poo bags going in the garbage, heavy dog food that’s getting shipped at a high carbon cost (and it often has lots of additives) and dog toys made of plastic. But a few smart eco products can help reduce your pup’s carbon pawprint.
Choose a leash that’s made from eco-friendly materials like a hemp Planet Dog leash. Hemp has a short growth cycle of only 100-120 days, which means it’s highly renewable and can be harvested more often than traditional fibers. Play fetch with West Paw Designs’ Hurley, a non-toxic, latex-free, recyclable bone that was manufactured with virtually zero waste. And reward your pooch with a 100% Certified Organic biscuit treat from Wagatha’s.

This number will only increase as population grows and pollution continues to contaminate drinkable water. There are many easy ways of reducing our water footprint, from installing low-flow showerheads in our bathrooms to wearing organic cotton or hemp shirts.
