Celebrities Gone Green: Kelly Rutherford is a True Green Queen

kelly-rutherford

Kelly Rutherford has already made it onto the Greenzer Blog as a Celebrity Gone Green, but her continued efforts for the environment have showed she has true staying power in the green community—and that she can blend eco-friendliness fabulousness.

The Gossip Girl star is a mom (both onscreen and off) and, like many of her fellow female celebs, has professed a deeper desire for going green once she had her children. Unlike some of her peers, however, Rutherford has a long history as a green queen, starting with when she was a child eating organic treats and moving into her early twenties when she started using Seventh Generation products around her home—before the company was the green giant it is today. Recent years have seen Rutherford give up her Range Rover for a Prius and commit to composting and carrying reusable bags. She mixes her earth-driven deeds with true socialite style, too, carrying Hermes bags in addition to the reusable ones, and citing both Tom’s Shoes and Tod’s Shoes as favorites. Celebrities Gone Green: Erin Brockovich Joins Seventh Generation in Million Baby Crawl

erin brockovichmillion-baby-crawl

Erin Brockovich claimed fame in the legal world when she worked on a team that won the largest settlement ever paid in a direct action lawsuit in the United States, but it wasn’t until Julia Roberts took to the screen to recreate the events that Brockovich became a household name. Since then she’s secured her position as an important environmental activist and used her notoriety to help others around the country, and Brockovich’s latest efforts with the Seventh Generation Million Baby Crawl fit perfectly with her philosophy that every person has the right to the truth about potential health (and environmental) dangers.

The Million Baby Crawl is a campaign spearheaded by Seventh Generation to get the government working on stronger chemical laws that would ensure children—who are especially vulnerable to many of the toxic ingredients in  household products—wouldn’t be endangered by everyday products. As both a mother of three and an advocate for the consumer’s right to be informed about what’s in the products they buy, Erin Brockovich jumping on board to aid the campaign is no surprise (especially not when she’s joining the ranks of fellow campaign partners like Dr. Alan Greene, the well known eco-friendly baby book author). Celebrities Gone Green: Nicole Richie Looks Out For the Next Generation

nicole-richieseventh-generation-diapers

Nicole Richie has come a long way since her Simple Life days, switching gears from the ditzy doppelganger of Paris Hilton to loving mother of her daughter Harlow (with another child on the way). In fact, the once famous-for-nothing reality starlet has been keeping very busy these days with eco-activism on a variety of fronts both at home to across the world.

Richie’s eco-endeavors begin at home with green products that will be as safe for her children as for the planet and that will preserve the planet as much as possible for the future. At a recent environmental charity event in L.A., Richie dished that one of her favorite green products is the chlorine-free diapers from Seventh Generation (she’s also a fan of the line’s natural dishwashing soap and recycled paper towels). Seventh Generation diapers are made from chlorine-free wood pulp, which is not only better for babies’ skin but also prevents dioxin pollution. You won’t find latex, fragrance or toxic addition in Seventh Generation diapers, either, making them a good solution for parents who want the convenience of traditional disposable diapers but in a greener form (although Nicole Richie should consider organic reusable Bum Genius diapers or flushable gDiapers if she wants to get even greener with her next newborn). Saving the Earth One Sneeze at a Time

If seasonal allergies have you achoo-ing and blowing your nose all day long, consider this before you reach for your next tissue. According to the National Resource Defense Council, if every household in the US swapped one box (175 sheets) of traditional facial tissues for one box of 100% recycled ones, we could save 163,000 trees. Remember when America’s love for overly plush toilet paper made the headlines recently as an incredibly wasteful habit? The variety of luxury tissues increases your tissue trash, too–triple ply, ultra soft, with added aloe–sounds like it’s time to change the way you blow.

Seventh Generation Facial Tissues will turn you into a sustainable sneezer. They’re made from 100% recycled paper and they’re packaged in a box made from 100% recycled paper, too. Plus, Seventh Generation whitens without chlorine bleach. Traditional tissues go through a chlorine bleaching process that releases toxic chemicals into the environment including dioxin.
