CAKE is going the distance when it comes to getting green (sorry, we couldn’t resist). The genre-blending band with a stream of hit singles from the 90s through today recently decided to make its sixth album using 100% solar energy. To achieve the goal, they installed a solar array on the roof of their Sacramento, California recording studio (Upbeat Studio) that would get them off the grid and enable them to trap all that California sunshine for some eco-conscious tunes. To demonstrate how the solar-installation process works and educate fans on some of the reasons solar is a smart choice, they’ve posted a video showing the solar installation on their website. To add to their (positive) impact, CAKE has also set up a carpooling page on their site where fans can go to find a shared ride to concerts and they regularly post news entries about environmental issues.
