Eco-Tex is a worldwide consortium of leading textile manufacturers based in Germany that was formed in 1992. The environmental section of Certified Performance includes criteria for the minimization of water, ground and air pollution. Common standards and fundamental principals such as those contained in FSC or HACCP, for example, are integrated into Certified Performance. Handling and characteristics of certain specific chemical and toxic substances are discussed in detail.

EcoLogo
EcoLogo is North America’s oldest environmental standard and certification organization (and the second oldest in the world). The EcoLogo Program certifies and recognizes products and services that are environmentally preferable. It develops and promotes higher standards of environmental performance against which products and services can be assessed. These higher standards are called “Certification Criteria Documents” (or CCDs) and contain the exact environmental and performance requirements an applicant must meet to become EcoLogo certified.

EPEAT
EPEAT is a system to help purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes. EPEAT also provides a clear and consistent set of performance criteria for the design of products, and provides an opportunity for manufacturers to secure market recognition for efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products. EPEAT evaluates electronic products in relation to 51 total environmental criteria - 23 required and 28 optional. To qualify for registration as an EPEAT product, the product must conform to all the required criteria. All registered products must meet the required criteria, and achieve bronze status. Manufacturers may then achieve a higher level EPEAT rating—you guessed it, silver or gold – for products by meeting additional optional criteria.
