The hybrid-powered Lexus RX 400h (‘h’ standing for hybrid) luxury SUV entered for the first time the market in 2006. The RX 400h marries the sport utility performance and well-known Lexus luxury in a hybrid package. The 2009 Lexus RX 400h, which is unchanged from earlier models, is praised for its driving performance which is comparable to its Lexus RX 350 sister, and for its unique status as a hybrid alternative in the luxury SUV market. The current version of the Lexus RX 400h is available in both front- or all-wheel-drive versions. It is made of a hybrid power train system that combines a gasoline-fueled V6 with a battery pack and electric motor generators.

PROS:

Much can be made of the features of the Lexus RX 400h. For instance, the car’s performance is top-of-the-line. Despite being a midsize SUV, it drives much more like a smaller car, averaging 27 miles to the gallon in the city and 24 on the highway. Even further, the car has much to brag about when it comes to being environmentally friendly. This fuel-efficient, hybrid machine has been certified as a Super Ultra-Low Emissions vehicle, producing 70% fewer smog than other new vehicles. As if the technical specifications weren’t enough, the car’s safety ratings are among the best, it is available in 4-wheel drive, and the interior look is first-rate. The Lexus RX 400h features voice-activated DVD navigation, a backup camera, and a DVD entertainment system in the rear compartment. If you are looking for an efficient, eco-friendly, and classy crossover or midsize SUV, the Lexus RX 400h should top your list.

CONS:

Though there were a few cons in the 2006 and 2007 models, they seem to have been worked out in the 2008 version. The kink experienced by some drivers between 40 and 45 mph in the previous models seems to have disappeared. Furthermore, some owners have complained that the mpg is not as good as advertised. The one problem that seems to linger with the 400h is the price tag, with an MSRP for the 2008 model of over $42,000. Nevertheless, if are willing to spend that much, the Lexus RX 400h certainly does deliver plenty of bang for the buck.
